"The Main Street Alliance, a nascent national network of state small business groups that back reform along Democratic lines proclaimed last week Stand With Small Business Week of Action. In several states the Alliance held rallies and press conferences and aired commercials, all meant to shore up sympathetic legislators — and pressure less sympathetic ones. At least one event marked a significant shift on Capitol Hill: a Blue Dog Democrat came out in unambiguous support for a government-run “public option” for health insurance."
This is the first activist experience for one of MSA's most vocal proponents, Mike Draper. (Let's buy some t-shirts from his shop in Iowa.)
And you'll never guess the state that this effort originated in - Idaho. That's right, the state most derided for right-wing nuttery, Idaho, is showing solid support for a government-run public option to challenge the monopoly of the insurance companies. Could the public option equal Teddy Roosevelt-style trust-busting for the insurance companies? Somewhere in Heaven, the great Rough Rider smiles again.
